Chapter 1 — Quadratic Functions and Equations.

This chapter provides a comprehensive exploration of parabolas and quadratic equations. Students will master transitioning between the ABC general form, y = ax² + bx + c, and the APQ vertex form, y = a(x - p)² + q. We explore how to convert from APQ to ABC through expansion, and more importantly, how to use completing the square to convert from ABC back to APQ form.

Beyond algebraic transformations, the unit delves into the "why" behind the math, such as deriving the axis of symmetry formula, x = -b/2a, and effectively applying the Quadratic Formula. Students will analyze the discriminant to determine the number of solutions and tackle complex optimization applications.

We apply these quadratic models to real-world business contexts where calculating maximum revenue, profit, and cost—as well as understanding the relationship between supply and demand—are essential for strategic success.
