When looking at an addition statement, the first number onthe left is how much chips you begin with

The sign in the middle indicates whether to “take away” (–)or “put in” (+) something

The second number indicates what to “put in” or “takeaway”

Using the zero property, each red and yellow cancel out

You begin with 13 positive chips

“+” meansyou putsomething in

Add 7negative chips

Each “red” and “yellow”chip will cancel eachother out
