If there is more than one operation in an expression,we need to simplify the operations in order

Brackets  Exponents  Divide/Multiply Add/Subtract

Ex: Simplify & evaluate the following

Temperature conversion: Fahrenheit vs Celsius

Fahrenheit  - used in USA

Celsius – used in Canada

Fuel consumption of vehicles – ie: how much gas isrequired to drive a car for 100km

Calculating rental costs for a car or building

Science – relationship between two variables,

Ie: Height vs weight, IQ vs Age, Speed vs Muscle mass

Finance – investments, how much will you have ifyou invest $1000 for 10 years?

The relationship between Celsius andFahrenheit degrees is given by the formula: where “C” is the degree in Celsius and “F” isthe degree in Fahrenheit.  Find the Celsiustemperature which correspond to 50°F?

50°F is equal to 10°c

The rate of fuel consumption of a BMW Xi is given by theformula:Where “R” is the rate in litres per 100km and “F” is thefraction of the driving on the highway.  Find the valueof “R” when 40% of the driving is on highway?

It will require 6.18Litres of gas to drive 100km, with 40% ofthe time on the highway

Challenge: The value (A) of an invest is given by the formula: where “P” is the principle, “r” is the interest rate, “n” is thenumber of compounds, and “t” is the number of years.  If$1000 is invested for 10 years compounded 4 times a year at7% interest (r=0.07), what will the value be when theinvestment matures?
