REVIEW: LOWEST COMMON MULTIPLE
A multiple is a number that you can multiply into
ie: The multiples of “6” are 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36,…..
The smallest common multiple between two integers iscalled the “lowest common multiple” [LCM]
Ex: Given the following set of integers, find the LCM:
i) 6 and 8 iii) 12, 15, and 10
24 will be the lowestcommon multiple

ADDING FRACTIONS
When adding two fractions, they must first have acommon denominator
So that the unit value of each numerator will be thesame
We need to split each of theseboxes into equal numbers ofrectangles
Each box now have 12 rectangles,
which is the lowest commondenominator

PRACTICE: ADD THE FOLLOWING
When adding these two boxes, they need to split into equalnumber of pieces
Each box now has equalnumber of little rectangles
We can reduce the fraction byreducing the number of rectangles
The answer is 11 shaded rectanglesout of 12 rectangles
