When looking at an addition statement, the first number onthe left is how much chips you begin with
The sign in the middle indicates whether to “take away” (–)or “put in” (+) something
The second number indicates what to “put in” or “takeaway”
Using the zero property, each red and yellow cancel out
You begin with 13 positive chips
“+” meansyou putsomething in
Each “red” and “yellow”chip will cancel eachother out
